  • Coarse sea salt
  • Water

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the Molcajete: Start by rinsing the molcajete and pestle (tejolote) with warm water. Avoid using soap to prevent absorption into the stone.

  2. Scrub with Sea Salt: Sprinkle a generous amount of coarse sea salt into the molcajete. Use the brush to scrub the salt into the surface of the stone, working in circular motions. This process helps to remove any loose stone particles and season the surface.

  3. Rinse and Repeat: Rinse out the salt with water. Repeat the scrubbing process until the water runs clear and no grit is released.

  4. Final Rinse and Dry: Give the molcajete one last rinse with warm water and let it air dry completely.
