Zapotec Howling Coyote - Oaxacan Alebrije Wood Carving
Exceptional howling coyote alebrije wood carving by the Fabian family. Expertly carved out of a single piece of copal wood which is considered a sacred wood which only grows in Oaxaca and is the preferred wood for carvers. This piece was very well made with perfect proportions and expression of a real life coyote. The Zapotec patterns adorning the entire piece are inspired by those found on the ancient ruins found scattered throughout the Oaxaca region and have a great importance on Oaxacan culture and arts. A fantastic piece for the art lover!
